Who is Ngā Pou Mana?
Ngā Pou Mana is the national Māori health organisation supporting Māori allied health professionals. Ngā Pou Mana umbrellas all Allied Health Groups within the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (HPCA) 2003 and also provide a place and voice for those Māori allied health professionals that don’t have their own professional associations.
Why was Ngā Pou Mana established?
Ngā Pou Mana was established to be a collective voice for Māori allied health professionals, and a place where resources, information and experience could be shared.
Ngā Pou Mana provides a base from which Māori allied health professionals can develop relationships with the wider health sector, the education sector, registration bodies and professional associations.
Ngā Pou Mana also has an important role to play in monitoring Māori participation in allied health professions and supporting Māori participation in allied health professions through workforce development and effective advice to government.
What does Ngā Pou Mana seek to achieve?
Ngā Pou Mana seeks to be a supportive entity that supports and underpins pride in being Māori allied health professionals by raising the profile of Māori allied health professionals, promoting professional and workforce development and providing productive mentoring and networking opportunities.
Ngā Pou Mana believes it is important to continue to grow and develop individual professions while strengthening and facilitating the collective organisational requirements of the allied health professions.
How does Ngā Pou Mana operate?
An executive team of Māori allied health professionals governs Ngā Pou Mana and provides links with other Māori allied health professional associations and Māori rōpū within national health organisations.
Ngā Pou Mana organises a Hui A Tau as its key networking event and communicates with its members through its website and e-pānui.
Currently membership is free and Ngā Pou Mana invites all Māori allied health professionals to register membership online and join the database to receive e-pānui and relevant information as part of Ngā Pou Mana membership.
